The pedagogy I practice works to build meaningful connections between conceptual principles and experiential practice. I collaborate with my students in engaging thoughtful approaches to creative decision making that is rooted in visual literacy and cultural presence. I actively seek opportunities for the practice of my creative, critical and empirical scholarship to inform new approaches to teaching. It is my constant goal to foster a space where ideas, perspectives and experiences are shared openly, and critical thinking is valued. I encourage engagement and am committed to the understanding that engagement does not look the same for every student. Not everyone finds talking in class beneficial, so I invite students to participate in ways that are meaningful to their learning. I also provide multiple modes of content delivery so students can interact with course material in ways that make sense for their style of learning. These philosophical commitments are the foundation of how I approach student centered teaching.
